Job Summary: The Social Worker will provide support in the implementation and development of qualitative, inclusive protection activities, integrated with the MHPSS community based approach and the response to the basic needs of HI beneficiaries provided by Handicap International and other actors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Actively participate to the actor and service mapping in HI area of intervention;
  • Significantly contribute to the analysis of the mental health and psychosocial issues / needs, sources of distress, coping mechanisms, community-based dynamics and mechanisms, leaderships, representation of the beneficiaries and communities targeted by HI intervention;
  • Actively participate to the identification of barriers to equal access to services;
  • Take part in the development of a referral system;
  • Identify and assess of Person with Specific Needs;
  • The incumbent will refer internally and externally Person with Specific Needs (PSN);
  • Recognize emergency situation or situations that need immediate medical care or protection measure and react in consequence making efforts to ensure that beneficiary get the appropriate services;
  • The Social worker will also participate to the development of tailored and inclusive IEC material for the dissemination of information on services;
  • Actively facilitate awareness raising sessions and information dissemination sessions and documented each of them;
  • Organise and facilitate community-based events and collaborate with local partners;
  • Use various communication means during activities to ensure effective inclusion of all;
  • Propose relevant adaptations to ongoing activities and tools to the line manager in order to cope with the challenges faced in the field;
  • Ensure regular review and propose relevant adaptations to ongoing activities and tools;
  • Maintain complete documentation for each activity following the recommendations and template of the project manager;
  • Represent Handicap International in this technical domain with any relevant stakeholders under the supervision of his/her manager at field level;
  • Show professional ethics, respect and promote Handicap International mandate at any time, respecting all HI protection policies;
  • Participate in the weekly team meetings;
  • Ensure the strict application of the rules;
  • Report any incident in which s/he’s involved/witnessed immediately;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Handicap International  Social Worker job opportunity must hold a human science (Social Works) degree with experience;
  • Professional experience in the protection of vulnerable persons and/or refugees within NGO;
  • Previous exposure and experience in social cohesion and/or community mobilization and/or conflict management;
  • Previous experience in case management;
  • Prior experience in adult trainings is desired
  • Prior exposure and experience in MHPSS humanitarian intervention;
  • Previous exposure and experience in GBV and/or child protection;
  • Experience in community-based protection;
  • Strong sense of neutrality and confidentiality;
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills;
  • Open and interested in disability and vulnerability issues;
  • High diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and security awareness;
  • Ability to work under high pressure and without constant supervision;
  • Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and internet;
  • Languages: Spoken and written English. Proficiency local languages are an asset (Arua)
